DURHAM, N.C. — One man died and three people were hurt late Thursday in a crash in Durham on North Duke Street near Minerva Avenue.

According to officials, a silver Ford Focus, which was going north in the right lane of North Duke Street, swerved in front of a northbound Buick Enclave, which was in the left lane. The SUV, which was reported as stolen, hit a utility pole and pushed the sedan into a tree. The crash occurred around 11:30 p.m.

Gabriel Dashon Melton Jr., 27, the driver of the Focus, died at a local hospital. The driver of the Enclave, Rahnesha Denise Dozier, 23, and her 14-year-old passenger, along with a 25-year-old passenger in the Focus were all taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Duke Street was closed between Minerva Avenue and West Corporation Street.
