RED SPRINGS, N.C. — The Robeson County Sheriff's Office charged a man Friday in a fatal shooting on Milk Dairy Road, Lt. Charlie Revels said.

Crystal Cummings, 28, of Sessoms Street in Red Springs, was driving along the road on Aug. 7 when she was shot in the forehead. She died Aug. 10.

Jimmy Marrisell Powers, 23, of the 200 block of Straightway Drive in Fairmont, was charged with first-degree murder and discharging a weapon into an occupied moving vehicle.

Sheriff Kenneth Sealey said his office has not made a connection between Powers and Cummings.

Investigators said they think the shooting was gang-related and that Cummings was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Revels said more arrests could be forthcoming.
