RALEIGH, N.C. — After several weeks of improving drought conditions across North Carolina, the state inched backward this week, according to a report issued Thursday.

Henderson County in western North Carolina moved from severe drought conditions to extreme conditions, the state Drought Management Advisory Council said in its weekly report. No other changes from last week were reported.

The Triangle continues to experience abnormally dry or moderate drought conditions. Counties to the west of Charlotte are experiencing the worst drought conditions in the state.

In addition to the line of showers and thunderstorms crossing the state Thursday, WRAL Chief Meteorologist Greg Fishel said, the region could get another soaking Sunday, when another system moves through.
