The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, the social media phenomenon that sees civilians and celebrities getting doused and asking friends to give to fund research and awareness of Lou Gehrig's Disease, has taken root among Triangle sports figures and the media.

Each challenge inspires more and results in more giving to the ALS Association.
Nationwide, the group has seen $7 million come in over the past three weeks, a figure almost quadruple the total from the same period a year ago.
WRAL and Fox 50 have pledged a donation to the ALS Association, but that didn't keep our people from lining up for their chance to take the challenge.
