Hazmat crews evacuate I-95 near Rocky Mount, both lanes close temporarily
Both lanes of Interstate 95 near Rocky Mount were closed on Friday morning as hazmat crews evacuated the area.
Posted — UpdatedOfficials say that the interstate near Enfield and N.C. Highway 33 was shut down between Exit 150 to 154 at around 3 a.m. Friday. Both lanes reopened at around 4 a.m., according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
Crews were investigating a "hazmat situation" stemming from a box truck, officials said.
Officials with the State Highway Patrol said it was unclear what was on the box truck, but it was deemed non-hazardous.
Drivers passing through the area were being directed to take a detour.
