DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham County grand jury has voted not to indict a man in connection with a fatal crash last month.

Anthony Todd Pearce, 41, was charged in a May 14 crash on Cheek Road. Authorities said Pearce lost control of his car in a curve near Arvin Road, east of Durham, and the car ran off the side of the road and slammed into a tree on the passenger side.

Tracey Braswell Lee, 44, was killed in front passenger seat.

Investigators said they believed excessive speed and drugs were factors in the crash.

The grand jury on Monday returned no bills against Pearce, meaning they declined to indict him, on charges of felony death by vehicle, careless and reckless driving and driving while license revoked.
