SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Fire destroyed a 150-year-old farm house near Smithfield Tuesday afternoon.

Johnston County sheriff's deputies closed off Crantock Road while multiple fire departments fought to put out the fire and hot spots.

WRAL viewer Marianne Rapp lives nearby. She e-mailed that the woman who lived there got out safely with her two granddaughters.

The Johnston County Sheriff's Office had no official word on a cause or injuries.
