SANFORD, N.C. — Sanford police responded to a shooting at 623 Scott Ave. around 6:15 p.m. Saturday.

Fredarius McIver, 26, was shot to death at a home and pronounced dead at the scene. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

Police have arrested a 15-year-old male suspect and transported him to the Wake Juvenile Detention Center in Raleigh. The teen turned himself in to investigators with his mother at the police department around 8:00 p.m.

He is charged with first-degree murder.

McIver's father on Sunday said his son was trying to turn his life around and had been helping the teen who is accused of shooting him, often letting the teen stay at his home.

Police have not said what they believe led up to the shooting and have not identified the 15-year-old.
