Durham man charged with murder of child

A 22-year-old Durham man faces charges of murder and intentional child abuse in the death of a little girl.

DURHAM, N.C. — A 22-year-old Durham man faces charges of murder and intentional child abuse in the death of a little girl.

Police were called to 2621 Mansfield Drive on Friday night, where they found the child unresponsive. She was taken to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Jakeyz Tyshun Giles was taken to Durham County Jail where he was being held without bond. Investigators said Giles was caring for the child when the abuse allegedly occurred. They did not release the name of the child or say whether Giles was a relative.
