WENDELL, N.C. — Customers from as far away as the North Carolina coast came to Wendell on Saturday to purchase chicken in the latest bargain direct sale due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Despite rainy conditions, the line began forming just past midnight for Saturday's Raeford Farms sale. Wendell police told WRAL's John Payne the truck arrived around 6:15 a.m. According to Raeford Farms representative David Mejai, all 1,200 cases were sold in about two hours to "a lot of happy customers."

The chicken came from the House of Raeford plant in Wallace, N.C., according to a spokesperson.

While all the customers were not served, Mejai said the company hopes to return to Wendell next Saturday for another sale.
