CLAYTON, N.C. — Clayton authorities have scheduled a community meeting for Wednesday evening to discuss a recent rash of suspicious fires.

Police and fire investigators, as well as agents with the State Bureau of Investigation, will be at the meeting, set for 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Powhatan Elementary School, 3145 Vinson Road.

The authorities won't discuss specific details of their ongoing criminal investigations, but they can provide a general overview of the investigations and information about $10,000 reward being offered in the case, Police Chief Glen Allen said in a statement.

The meeting also will give investigators an opportunity to obtain information, Allen said. Clayton police and fire personnel will also offer crime and fire prevention tips and details about forming a Neighborhood Watch program.

Six homes under construction and a day care under construction have burned since the end of October. A 13-year-old was charged with the day care fire, but the other incidents remain under investigation.

Anyone who observed suspicious activity or has other information about the fire should call Clayton police at 919-553-4611 or Clayton Crime Stoppers at 919-359-8479.
