CARY, N.C. — Town of Cary officials said an abundance of community tips has led to the arrest of a man wanted in connection to an indecent exposure complaint at a card and gift shop on Kildaire Farm Road.

According to police, Christopher Vincent Sumrell, of Ribbon Lane, approached an employee at Lynn's Party Plus on Aug. 1 and asked for help finding a birthday card. As Sumrell approached the cash register, authorities say he exposed himself before leaving the business in a beige vehicle.

Officials said Sumrell, 25, was charged with six counts of indecent exposure. He also faces a class two misdemeanor, which carries a fine of one to 60 days of active, intermediate or community punishment.

“The speedy arrest of this criminal was only possible because of the tips we received from our community," said Criminal Investigations Captain Randall Rhyne. "We’re thankful for this relationship as we all work together to keep Cary one of the safest places to live, work and raise a family."

Sumrell was taken into custody Wednesday evening and transported to the Wake County Public Safety Center.
