CARY, N.C. — The chance of strong winds from Hurricane Irene has prompted the Town of Cary to cancel its annual Lazy Daze Arts & Crafts Festival this weekend.

"Nothing is more important to us than the safety of our artists, entertainers, guests, volunteers and workers,” the festival's coordinator, Joy Ennis, said in a news release Thursday afternoon.

The event will not be rescheduled, she said, because participants have already committed to other events for the year.

Next year's Lazy Daze is scheduled for Aug. 25.
