BUTNER, N.C. — A Butner public safety officer shot a suspect Friday afternoon, according to authorities.

At about 4:45 p.m., five officers were executing a search warrant in reference to drug activity at 209 11th St. when the officer fired and hit the male suspect in the chest.

According to Danny Roberts, Chief of Butner Public Safety, it is unclear what happened between the officer and suspect that led to the shooting.

"There was an incident in the driveway where an officer fired his weapon at a suspect," he said.

Police say the man was taken to Duke Hospital. According to authorities the suspect was alert, conscious and talking when he left the scene.

Five others were arrested at the scene. They were in the home.

No one else was injured in the incident.

Charges and names of those arrested were not released.

Per standard procedure for officer-involved shootings, the State Bureau of Investigation is investigating.
