RAEFORD, N.C. — A Hoke County school bus was involved in a wreck with a car at Fayetteville and Club Pond roads in Raeford Wednesday afternoon, state troopers said.

Witnesses said the driver of a Ford Mustang, Bordell Hedgpeth, turned left in front of the oncoming school bus, which struck the passenger-side door of the car, according to state Trooper Steve Joe.

A young boy, Trevor Hedgpeth, who was a passenger in the Mustang, was flown to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. Relatives said that he was being monitored for head injuries in the intensive care unit, but was in fair condition.

The Mustang driver, Bordell Hedgpeth, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Moore Regional Hospital. Hedgpeth is Trevor's grandfather.

Joe said that two Hoke High School students, ages 14 and 15, were on the bus at the time. Both of them and the bus driver were taken to area hospitals. None appeared to have life-threatening injuries.

Charges are pending in the wreck, Joe said. Both Hedgpeths and everyone on the bus were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.
