RALEIGH, N.C. — Emergency sirens sounded on the North Carolina State University campus Friday morning, prompting buildings to be locked down, because of a nearby bank robbery, authorities said.

A man walked into the Capital Bank branch at 2127 Clark Ave., across from the Cameron Village shopping center, at about 10:40 a.m., handed a note to a teller demanding money and fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.

Police apprehended the suspected robber on the N.C. State campus.

Corey Eric Sterling, 35, of 922-203 Sugar Hollow Lane in Wake Forest, was charged with common law robbery.

The lockdown lasted for only a few minutes, N.C. State spokesman Keith Nichols said.
