16-year-old bitten by shark near Cape Hatteras shore, released from medical care

The boy was swimming near an off-road vehicle ramp about 2.5 miles south of the village of Salvo, in the Outer Banks, officials said.

SALVO, N.C. — A 16-year-old boy was bitten by a shark off the shore of Cape Hatteras Thursday afternoon, according to officials.

The family of the teenager told officials he was jumping over waves on sandbar about 25 feet offshore.

He was treated for non-life threatening injuries in Nags Head. The boy was swimming near an off-road vehicle ramp about 2.5 miles south of the village of Salvo, in the Outer Banks, officials said.

The 16-year-old was from Oak Ridge in the piedmont of North Carolina.

He was released from the medical facility Thursday night, officials said.
