12 dogs at the SPCA of Wake County need homes for the holidays

Twelve dogs at the SPCA of Wake County are in need of a loving home for the holidays.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Twelve dogs at the SPCA of Wake County are in need of a loving home for the holidays.

According to the SPCA, when adoptions went virtual in March, it was more difficult for some dogs to get noticed.

"Without the chance to make face-to-face connections, 12 dogs have been left without families for months on end," the SPCA said in a news release.

As a result, the SPCA has launched a "12 Strays of the Holidays" promotion, reducing adoption fees for the 12 dogs by 50%. Each dog will also come with a stocking to open with his or her new family.

The reduced adoption fee of $47.50 includes a spay/neuter surgery, deworming, heartworm testing, basic canine vaccines and a microchip.

Interested adopters can see photos of the 12 dogs and submit a survey to begin the adoption application process online.

The SPCA on Petfinder Lane in Raleigh is open by appointment only.

Hundreds of dogs need homes in NC

Hundreds of dogs at other shelters across North Carolina need homes for the holidays, too. Each year, thousands of dogs and cats are killed in N.C. shelters because there is not enough room to hold them all.

Many shelters are operating by appointment only, so it's up to adopters to search for adoptable animals online and contact their local shelters.
