Publix has just started offering home grocery delivery through Instacart for select Triangle area zip codes.

Publix customers using Instacart for the first time will have their first home delivery fee waived.

With the new service, customers will be able to order and receive their groceries in as little as an hour. Shop using the Publix website or the Instacart app. Delivery hours are 9 am - 9 pm Monday through Friday.

See all the details on the Instacart website.

How Instacart Works

1. Go to the Instacart website or the Instacart app on your iPhone or Android device.

2. Enter your zip code and Publix store location.

3. Add items to your virtual cart, and then choose a delivery window (within one hour, within two hours, or some scheduled time in the future) and check out.

4. An Instacart Personal Shopper accepts the order on his/her smartphone, uses the Instacart shopper app to guide them through shopping, and then delivers the order to you in the designated delivery timeframe.

Delivery Fees

The fees vary depending on delivery time and amount of order.

Regular orders that are $35 or more have a $5.99 delivery fee.

Regular orders that are less than $35 have a $9.99 delivery fee.

One hour orders that are $35 or more have a $7.99 delivery fee.

One hour orders that are less than $35 have a $11.99 delivery fee.

There is also an Instacart Express option for an annual fee of $149 that makes orders of $35 or more (scheduled for 2 hour delivery) free.

The busiest delivery times may include an additional fee.

According to the Instacart website, a 10% tip is added to all orders but that number can be changed by the customer, if desired.

Coupons and sales: Customers will not be able to use manufacturer's or digital coupons with the home delivery option at this time. You will find that they offer sales through the Instacart ordering portal. According to the website, online item prices on some items are higher than in-store prices "to cover the cost of personal shopping."

Additional stores that offer Instacart delivery in the Triangle include Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Whole Foods Market, BJ's Wholesale Club, Costco, Petco and Total Wine.
