Rep. Ingle out in 2012

Rep. Dan Ingle, R-Alamance, says he won't be running for reelection in 2012. 

Ingle was appointed to his seat in June 2009, replacing former Rep. Cary Allred, who resigned after several controversies.

"When I placed my name into consideration for appointment for the remainder of the unexpired term for District 64 with the Alamance Republican Party, I did so with the commitment that I would run for reelection in 2010," Ingle said in a letter to House Speaker Thom Tillis yesterday. "I have met that commitment, and I will continue to work to the best of my ability with our Caucus and other members of the General Assembly, doing the people’s business, until the completion of this term."

Ingle, a retired police chief, said that as of 2012, he'll have spent nearly 40 years in public service, and he wants to spend more with his family. "With eight grandchildren, many who are currently involved in sports and other activities, I want to be there and share more quality time with them. This decision will allow me to do that," his letter said.

He also complimented Tillis on his leadership of the House this session. "For the most part, our Caucus has been on one page. The accomplishments we have achieved for those that we serve during this Long Session have been phenomenal. I have nothing but the utmost of respect for you and all of our colleagues."

While Ingle backed his caucus on key votes on GOP agenda items, he was also known for working across the aisle, and was considered one of the more moderate voices in the House Republican caucus.
