RALEIGH, N.C. — A Raleigh firefighter was arrested Thursday on allegations that he assaulted his girlfriend, according to Raleigh police spokesman Jim Sughrue said.

Herman Gregory Ellis, 38, was charged with assault on a female. His girlfriend did not suffer any apparent injuries, Sughrue said.

Ellis has been suspended without pay, pending the outcome of the investigation, Raleigh Fire Department Assistant Chief Rusty Styons said.

He was released on a $1,500 bond Friday morning. His next court appearance was set for April 7.

Ellis is the second Raleigh firefighter to be arrested this week. Richard Brandon Wells, 31, of 554 Howard Tant Road in Zebulon, was charged with solicitation of a minor by computer to commit an unlawful sex act and attempted indecent liberties with a minor.
