WILLOW SPRINGS, N.C. — Investigators are asking for the public's help finding the person who killed a woman in a hit-and-run crash Tuesday night in Johnston County.

The hit-and-run happened on Old Stage Road and Danavie Lane near the Wake County line. Jennifer Lee Penn, 43, of Willow Springs, was killed in the crash.

A witness said the vehicle that hit Penn was a lime green Jeep Wrangler. Evidence at the scene suggests that the vehicle is a 2019 Jeep Wrangler JL with right front damage to the headlight area.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call the North Carolina State Highway Patrol at 919-733-3861 or 919-934-2186.

The sheriff's office said Penn was walking near the edge of the road when she was struck. A passerby called it in after seeing her body on the side of road.
