The mother and father of a 2-month-old boy who died as a result of head injuries are facing charges, the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office said.

The boy's mother, Tationa Hyman, 21, and the boy's father, Kimani Grey, 20, both of Princeville, are charged with voluntary manslaughter.

Edgecombe County arrested the parents on Wednesday.

On March 27, Edgecombe County deputies received a call from ECU Health Tarboro about a 2-month-old boy brought to the hospital with head injuries.

Authorities took the boy, Kymani Grey, to ECU Health in Greenville. The sheriff's office said he died several days later from his injuries after getting removed from life support.

Detectives determined the injuries to the boy were inflicted on him, according to the sheriff's office.

An autopsy revealed Kymani Grey's cause of death was a homicide from intentional head trauma.

The parents each received a $25,000 secured bond, according to the sheriff's office. Authorities are holding them in the Edgecombe County Detention Center.
