Explosive 'resembling a Molotov Cocktail' thrown at Fuquay-Varina home, duo charged with having 'weapon of mass destruction'

Two people were arrested in connection with a crime involving throwing an explosive device at a home in Fuquay-Varina.

FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. — Two people were arrested in connection with a crime involving throwing an explosive device at a home in Fuquay-Varina.

When police arrived to the home for a property damage call, the victims said someone threw a glass bottle resembling a Molotov Cocktail at their residence.

An initial investigation revealed a bottle with gasoline inside and a cotton tip that had been burned.

Ariana Marie Orlando, 20, of Apex and William Alexander Smith, 19, of Holly Springs were charged with:

  • Damage to occupied property by use of an explosive
  • Conspiracy
  • Possession of a weapon of mass destruction

The bottle was in the driveway and didn’t appear to have hit the residence.

CCBI responded to process the scene.

Smith was arrested on March 20 and received a $40,000 secured bond.

Ariana Marie Orlando was arrested March 26 and received a $75,000 secured bond.

Both defendant's court dates have been set for April 10 at the Wake County Justice Center.
