SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. — Two adults and a child escaped a house fire in Southern Pines late Wednesday night.

Firefighters responded to a fire on Cardinal Road before midnight.

They reported seeing thick smoke coming from the two-story home, and fire officials say the fire started on the second floor.
