Two charged with stealing nearly 600 Venus flytraps in Brunswick County

Venus flytraps are native to southeastern North Carolina, and stealing them is considered a felony.

WECT reports officers with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission have obtained arrest warrants for two people accused of stealing nearly 600 Venus flytraps from nature conservancy land in Boiling Spring Lakes.

Venus flytraps are native to southeastern North Carolina, and stealing them is considered a felony.

Officers responded to a call on Feb. 13 about two people digging for flytraps in Boiling Spring Lakes. They found the suspects at a nearby gas station and searched their backpacks.

Officers are waiting to release the names of the suspects until warrants are served.
