Juvenile found with weapon on campus of a high school in Fayetteville

The Youth Services detectives have filed a petition Thursday charging a juvenile for having a weapon on Douglas Byrd High School campus.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The Youth Services detectives have filed a petition Thursday charging a juvenile for having a weapon on Douglas Byrd High School campus.

School Staff notified the School Resource Officer that someone was sleeping in a car in the parking lot of 1624 Ireland Drive in Fayetteville.

When the SRO approached the vehicle, he noticed a gun in the pocket of the person sleeping in the car.

The SRO was able to take the weapon without incident.

The individual has been identified as a juvenile.

The gun did not have a round in the chamber but did have three rounds in the magazine.

Youth Services detectives filed a petition with the Department of Juvenile Justice charging the juvenile with possession of a firearm on campus.

The juvenile is in the custody.
