Snow was falling Wednesday in the North Carolina mountains.

At 8:30 a.m., Blowing Rock looked like a winter wonderland. WRAL meteorologist Aimee Wilmoth reports a winter weather advisory continues in the mountains until 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

Between 2 to 5 inches of snow have already fallen in areas with higher elevation, and the mountains could get an additional 1 to 3 inches of snow by Wednesday afternoon.

WXII reports heavier bursts of snow may stick to roads, creating the potential for hazardous travel and increasing the chance for mountain county school delays on Wednesday morning.

According to WXII, winds could gust as high as 30 to 45 mph Wednesday morning. The wind chill temperature is expected to drop into the 20s for much of Wednesday and may fall as low as the upper teens.
