Aberdeen firefighters broke the windows of a burning car Wednesday afternoon to rescue a dog in a Walmart parking lot.

The fire was reported just after 3:30 p.m. outside the store on Turner Street. The dog was taken to the emergency veterinary hospital to be held overnight for treatment.

Firefighters found the pup trapped in a passenger seat as smoke filled the Mitsubishi. They busted it out and gave it oxygen, then sent it to a veterinarian for a full evaluation.

They were able to extinguish the fire.

The car's owner, who was inside the store when the fire began, was not hurt.
