The parking manager for Durham's Justice Center Parking Deck is charged with pocketing $14,000 in parking fees.
Posted — UpdatedAisha Kaleema Everett, 31, of Rocky Point, is charged with felony larceny by an employee and felony embezzlement, according to the Durham County Sheriff's Office.
Her arrest comes after Durham County finance staff in September notified the sheriff's office that the county was missing more than $14,000 in parking fees from the garage located next to the Justice Center at 502 S. Dillard St.
Investigators learned that Everett, the site manager for Reef/Lanier Parking, the contractor for the Durham parking deck, had stopped coming to work in May and could not be reached by phone.
Further investigations determined the money missing should have been deposited between February and May -- right before Everett stopped working.
It took several weeks for detectives to locate Everett, who had moved away but agreed to return to Durham to be served with the arrest warrant. Before Everett returned to the Bull City, however, she was charged with DWI in a crash in Duplin County and served with the Durham warrant.
Everett, who posted a $10,000 bail, is scheduled to appear in court in Durham on Nov. 13.
According to the Durham County Sheriff's Office, Tiffany Diane Blake, 40, of Durham, is accused of posing as nine different employees, one who had died, on 16 different occasions between August 2019 and January 2023.
The cases are not connected.
