SMITHFIELD, N.C. — A fire broke out at a Smithfield McDonald's early Friday morning.

The McDonald's at 884 W. Market Street was closed when the fire started around 2 a.m.

Fire crews arrived at 2:10 a.m. and found smoke coming from the kitchen. The fire was contained inside the kitchen because of the restaurant's sprinkler system. It took crews about 30 minutes to extinguish the fire.

The Smithfield fire marshal said the kitchen will have to be repaired and the health department will have to reinspect the area before the business can reopen.

There were 22 emergency responders on scene. The Smithfield, Wilson Mills and Selma fire departments responded, as well as the Johnston County fire marshal.

No one was injured.

The Smithfield fire marshal said the fire appears to be accidental.
