Connecticut man dies after getting pulled into the Atlantic in Nags Head

A 36-year-old man from Connecticut died after being pulled from the Atlantic Ocean in Nags Head.

NAGS HEAD, N.C. — A 36-year-old man from Connecticut has died after authorities pulled him from the Atlantic Ocean on Wednesday evening, according to the town of Nags Head.

Ocean Rescue guard tried CPR and Dare County Emergency Medical Services took him to the Outer Banks Hospital, where medical personnel pronounced him dead.

Authorities have not identified the man, but said he’s from Enfield, Connecticut. Also, authorities did not say how the man died.

Nags Head Fire and Ocean Rescue and Police Departments responded to a 911 call at approximately 5:50 pm Wednesday after receiving a report of a man in distress in the ocean about 50 yards north of the Nags Head Fishing Pier in the 330 block of South Virginia Dare Trail.

Beachgoers are reminded to swim near a lifeguard, never swim alone and learn about rip current safety before entering the ocean.
