A 15-year-old boy drowned at Hyco Lake, according to Person County Sheriff Jason Wilborn.

Wilborn said the call went out at about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday.

According to authorities, the teen's body, whose name they are not releasing, was found after a two-hour search.

The victim was hanging with a group of teenagers on spring break, and witnesses said he was not a good swimmer. They believe he may have been shocked by strong currents and cold water.

The sheriff's office said witnesses tried to jump in and save him, but it was too late.

Wilborn says the area is a no-swim zone, with several signs at the top of the bridge warning people not to jump in.

The Person County Sheriff's Office will continue to investigate.
