RALEIGH, N.C. — The color green fills the streets of downtown Raleigh Saturday night as thousands participate in the St Patrick's Day celebration.

"We want a big crowd tonight, have fun and let loose a little bit ya know?" said Rachel Cavera.

With the luck of the Irish on full display over the weekend, there are growing concerns regarding crowds and drinking.

"No one ever really knows what St. Patty's Day actually celebrates but we are here for the vibes and drinking," said Tia Hairston.

According to officers, if this St. Patrick's Day weekend is anything like last year, it will be busy.

"It's been extremely busy. We were here yesterday, all day, so we're here again for round two," said Hairston.

Last year, WRAL investigated, finding more than 40 complaints and crimes reported in Raleigh’s Glenwood South, including assaults, fights, car crashes and even a person falling from the balcony of a condo.

When it comes to partying, Cavera says the main goal of the night is to get home safely.

"Uber if you do not have a ride home. If you do, find someone who is sober to drive you home. Safe driving at all times," said Cavera.

According to officials, no major incidents have been reported downtown.
