A Dillard Drive Middle School student brought pepper spray on a school bus Thursday morning and sprayed it while onboard, according to a letter Principal Margaret Feldman sent to families.

"Several students were adversely affected by the spray, but there were no injuries that required transportation to a hospital," Feldman wrote of the incident on Bus 6.

Feldman wrote the bus driver alerted administration immediately. School leaders then alerted Wake County Public School System security, law enforcement and Emergency Management Services.

"Fortunately, EMS determined that the students affected could be treated on campus," Feldman wrote.

Feldman said school leaders and law enforcement have identified the the student who brought the pepper spray onto the bus.

"Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken," Feldman wrote. "Depending on the results of the investigation, legal action may also be taken."
