LUMBERTON, N.C. — Part of Interstate 95 will be widened in the coming years after a $247 million contract was awarded by the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

The renovations will occur on an eight-mile section of I-95 north of Lumberton.

Flatiron Constructors Inc., a Morrisville-based company, will widen the interstate from four lanes to eight lanes from just south of Exit 22 to mile marker 29.

Crews will be allowed to begin by Nov. 1, and will have toward the end of 2026 to complete the improvements. The work will include reconstructing Exit 25 with a longer, wider and taller bridge and new ramps with roundabouts.
