RALEIGH, N.C. — Buena Papa will be giving out $1 french fries on Tuesday, July 12, to celebrate National French Fry Day.

Buena Papa (which translates to Good Potato) opened its first location last year inside Morgan Street Food Hall.

The couple behind the french fries is husband-and-wife team James and Johanna Windon, who founded Buena Papa when they were forced to temporarily close their cleaning business during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The toppings on Buena Papa fries are inspired by Johanna’s native country of Colombia.

You can create your own combo of toppings or you can get one of the eight signature options including The Carolina, which has pulled pork on top. The "El Americano" features cheddar cheese, bacon, sour cream and chives. The "El Healthy" has sweet potato fries instead of traditional fries and is topped with smoked salmon, guacamole and pico de gallo.

Another favorite is the El Colombiano, or fries layered with Colombian refried beans and topped with chicharron (fried pork belly), chorizo (Colombian sausage) and finished with guacamole and pico de gallo.
