Pride Month Guide: Events, tours and resources around the Triangle
Here's a look at some of the best exhibits, tours, historic sites, events and opportunities to support Pride Month in the Triangle this June.
Posted — UpdatedJune is Pride Month in the Triangle, which means people, events and businesses are taking the time to reflect on and celebrate LGBTQIA+ leaders, artists and others who have made a difference in our community and often haven't received the spotlight they deserve.
Here's a look at some of the best tours, events and resources coming up in the Triangle this Pride Month.
1. Out! Raleigh Pride - June 25 on Fayetteville Street.
This is the 10th Anniversary of the Out! Raleigh Pride Festival. A decade ago, the first festival attracted 6,000 attendees. One year later, they drew a crowd of 10,000. It's become an annual event that fills Fayetteville Street with color and celebration for Raleigh's LGBTQIA+ community.
2. Apex Pride Festival - June 11 on Apex Town Campus
Organized by the Apex Festival Commission, the annual Apex Pride Festival is held to celebrate the town's LGBTQIA+ community members and loved ones.
The festival includes activities for all ages, including music, food, games, and vendors. There will also be a Drag Queen Story Hour, which aims to prevent bullying by encouraging acceptance of diversity.
3. Wilson's Inaugural Pride Celebration - June 4 at Treat Yo' Self Bakery in Wilson
Wilson, NC is celebrating its Inaugural Pride Celebration on June 4, starting at the Treat Yo' Self Bakery and ending at Casita Brewing Co.
Attendees can expect a variety of fun activities, such as a community art project to 'Spread Kindness like Confetti,' a drag queen meet and greet, a 'Show Your Pride' photo booth, local art and vendors, a lip sync battle and evening drag show. There will be also be live music and a Kid Zone.
The event includes a resource fair for LGBTQIA+ individuals and allies, as well as diversity and inclusion training -- including being a trans ally, breaking binaries and gender identity.
4. Run for Love 5K - June 11 at Dix Park in Raleigh
Trophy Brewing and Runologie are partnering up to host the Run for Love 5K, which raises money for the LGBTQ Center, Healing Transitions and Dix Park.
The race includes a Kid's Fun Run that kicks off at 8:45 a.m. The main race begins at 9 a.m. and takes place at Dix Park in Raleigh.
5. Pride Promenade - June 4 at Peace and Justice Plaza in Chapel Hill
Come celebrate the first annual Pride Promenade in Chapel Hill-Carborro.
"Come decorated in color ... and strut alongside performers and other revelers in celebration of the LGBTQ+ community," reads the website.
6. Pride Celebration - June 10 at The Fenton in Cary
Less than a month after its official launch, The Fenton will be celebrating Pride with an inclusive and family-friendly event, with activities for all ages.
The event offers live music, aerialist performances, face-painting and fairy hair stations, kids crafts, and a booth by the LGBT Center of Raleigh!
