GARNER, N.C. — A chase in Johnston County ended with a deputy's patrol car being hit on Saturday.

The sheriff's office says a deputy noticed a black Mercedes Benz sedan with fake license plates on Interstate 40.

A deputy tried to stop the car, but the driver kept going, leading them through a Lowe's and Walmart parking lot along Highway 42.

The driver eventually jumped out and ran, causing the car to collide with the deputy's patrol vehicle.

A passenger remained inside the car, and the driver was captured and arrested. Deputies say they found cash and drugs, including heroin and marijuana, inside the car.

The driver has not yet been identified by authorities.

WRAL is working to learn more.
