ANGIER, N.C. — An 18-year-old died in a crash while driving on Interstate 40 near North Carolina Highway 42 early Sunday morning. Investigators say he hit a deer while going at least 100 mph and crashed his car in Johnston County.

His car flipped up onto a concrete barrier in a construction zone, then collided with part of a bridge on Cornwallis Road with the top of his car.

The crash was estimated to happen sometime between midnight and 3 a.m. on Sunday but the car was not found until 7:30 a.m. Sunday, according to authorities investigating the crash.

The teen, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was found dead when state troopers arrived.

Officials say the teen lived in the area of McGee's Crossroads and was a graduate of a local high school.
