SILER CITY, N.C. — A semi-trailer truck caught fire and burned on U.S. Highway 421 South in Chatham County on Tuesday, and a first responder at the scene said the damage was unlike anything he'd seen before.
The crash occurred before 6:30 a.m. north of N.C. Highway 902 at Elmer Moore Road.
At 7 a.m., sand was being used to extinguish the fire and hot spots. The truck's cabin was completely melted.
According to crews at the scene, the truck crashed into a crane, and the driver was able to exit the cab before the fire.
