RALEIGH, N.C. — Frigid weather and below-freezing road temperatures caused reports of black ice on Saturday morning. Drivers were urged to be cautious, as multiple traffic incidents occurred in the Triangle as a result of black ice and below-freezing road conditions.

Northbound Falls of Neuse Road was closed due to black ice conditions near the intersection of Old Falls of Neuse Road, according to Raleigh police.

A patch of black ice on Forestville Road caused a driver to lose control, slamming into a large tree. Crews worked to remove the top of the car to free the driver, and the driver's current condition is unknown.

Another vehicle overturned after the driver hit a patch of black ice on Eagle Rock Road near Lake Glad Road. The driver lost control of a work van and overturned. Two more trucks also slid on the ice before NC DOT showed up and laid down sand.

Drivers are advised to remain cautious while driving until road temperatures begin warming up. Black ice looks just like a wet road, so most drivers don't realize they are on ice until they begin to lose control of their vehicle.
