RALEIGH, N.C. — A Duke University graduate student died in a crash on Saturday evening.
Michael Mutersbaugh, of Mclean, Va., was killed in a single-vehicle wreck on the Interstate 40 eastbound ramp at South Saunders Street.
Mutersbaugh was a first-year Ph.D. student in Duke’s neurobiology graduate program.
Raleigh police said Mutersbaugh's car was exiting on the ramp when he lost control, left the road and hit a tree.
A message sent to Duke graduate students said "several other passengers are recovering from their injuries."
