CARY, N.C. — A small fire was reported Thursday inside the old Sears at Cary Towne Center.

A spokesperson from the Town of Cary said firefighters responded to the old department store, which is currently empty and blocked off from the rest of the mall, before 11 a.m.

The fire was quickly brought under control.

The fire is still under investigation but appears to be from an electrical issue.

Only Belk and several other stores, including Lens Crafters and Dave & Buster's, remain open at the mall for one last holiday season. Soon, the site will be converted into a mix of office, retail and residential spaces.
