APEX, N.C. — Apex police are looking for the person or people who stole more than a dozen flags put up in honor of Veterans Day.

A police spokesman said 17 American flags, an Apex sunrise flag, five military branch flags and a U.S. Veterans Corps flag were reported missing Friday morning from the Field of Flags set up in a field off of Laura Duncan Road.

"We will question people around the area, and we'll try to search around social media to see if anybody's talking about 'Hey, I got this,'" said Apex Deputy Chief Mitchell McKinney.

"It is shocking ... It kind of shocks the conscience that someone would think this is okay," he said.

As of Saturday morning, police had neither a suspect nor a motive.
