RALEIGH, N.C. — It will be an eventful weather week, with dramatic temperature changes midweek and a chance for freezing rain Friday morning.

According to WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner, Monday will be cloudy and mild, with a high around 60 degrees in Raleigh and some rain in the first half of the day.

The warmest day of the week will be Tuesday, which could warm up to 70 degrees before dropping almost 30 degrees for Wednesday and Thursday.

"I wish I could tell you Tuesday will be beautiful, but it will be cloudy and overcast," Gardner said.

From there, temperatures will fall drastically, with a high in the mid 40s on Wednesday and a high around 41 degrees Thursday.

A chance for rain moves in Tuesday night and the first half of Wednesday, according to Gardner, and Thursday will be bright but very cold, with a low in the 30s and temperatures warming only into the low 40s.

According to Gardner, some sleet and freezing rain could fall by lunchtime Friday, but, despite the snowflake icon that appeared on weather apps earlier this week, snow flurries are not expected.

Temperatures will be in the 50s Friday afternoon, keeping things mild and wet. Saturday will be warmer and rainier when a heavy band of rain moves through the area.

"It's going to be a messy weekend for us," Gardner said.

Sunday will be drier and sunny.
