RALEIGH, N.C. — A car flipped over a rock and slammed into a home near Wade Avenue on Wednesday morning, Raleigh police said.

The crash happened around midnight at the corner of Duplin Road and Wade Avenue.

Police said the female driver was drunk. She was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to face charges, police said.

Matthew Schreiber, who lives at the house, said he was returning home when the Honda SUV came barreling toward the house.

“I go to unlock the door, grab my keys, and all of a sudden I hear this sound,” Schreiber said. “I turn around and this car comes flying down the yard and crashes into the house. I immediately open the door, and I go, ‘Morgan, a car hit our house.’”

Morgan Martin, Schreiber’s roommate, was sleeping in the house but was woken up by the crash.

“My bed shook, I shook,” Martin said. “The noise was horrendous."

She said the driver wasn’t moving after the crash

“I am shook up about it,” she said. “I mean, seeing that, seeing someone not super responsive, not moving, coming out of that car, that was terrifying.”

A tire went through the house's brick siding, landing in Schreiber’s closet.
