Durham police ID man killed outside gas station during shoot-out

Durham police were searching for clues after two people were shot, including one fatally, Thursday afternoon during an incident that took place at a busy gasoline station.

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police were searching for clues after two people were shot, including one fatally, Thursday afternoon during an incident that took place at a busy gasoline station.

Police on Friday identified the man who was killed as Robert Darrell Taylor Jr., 22, of Durham.

Police have not yet publicly identified the second victim, described as an 18-year-old man. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries, according to a police spokeswoman. The man's condition on Friday was not immediately known.

Police said no charges have been filed yet in connection with the incident, which occurred around 4:30 in the 1300 block of Hill Street and University Drive.

Several police officers responded to the scene and yellow crime scene tape was erected around the gas station where the incident occurred.

Police were still on the scene after 6 p.m. Thursday conducting an investigation.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to call Durham police.
