Eastover town manager killed in weekend traffic accident

Kim Nazarchyk died during the wreck, which occurred around 5:30 p.m. in the westbound lanes of US-13, the State Highway Patrol said via email.

According to troopers, Nazarchyk was on a motorcycle when it crashed into another westbound vehicle. The car’s driver slowed to make a right turn but the biker didn’t slow down, authorities said. Nazarchyk was thrown from the bike during the impact.

No other injuries were reported.

Authorities said no charges have been filed in the case.

Town officials on Monday expressed their condolences for Nazarchyk, who became town manager in December 2009 and, "always had the community's interest at heart," Mayor Pro Term Cheryl Hudson said in a statement.

"This wasn't just a job," Hudson said. "It was almost like a calling, and we are going to miss him."

Charles McLaurin, the mayor of Eastover, said the town's budget was one of the best for a town its size under Nazarchyk's leadership.

"We were very fortunate to have Kim as our town manager," McLaurin said. "Not only was he highly qualified, he lived here and was fully invested in our town and community."
