Driver dies after crashing into dump truck near Cameron

One person died in a crash involving a dump truck near Cameron on Monday morning.

CAMERON, N.C. — One person died in a crash involving a dump truck near Cameron on Monday morning.

According to officials with the State Highway Patrol, Marvin Matos Franco, 40, was speeding on North Carolina Highway 24 near Lizzie Jeter Lane when he traveled too far to the left and struck a dump truck traveling in the opposite direction.

Both vehicles went off the road.

Franco died at the scene. Calvin Fox, 34, a passenger in Franco's car, was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, and was later airlifted to UNC Hospitals.

Brian Hernandez Gomez, 23, the driver of the dump truck, suffered minor injuries but was not transported to the hospital.

The road reopened by 11 a.m.
